1.) SOAPSTone this song.
Subject: an old desk that gets a lot of use
Occasion: 1970's America
Audience: American listeners
Purpose: to express his love for his desk
Speaker: one should appreciate the little things, like a faithful desk
Tone: happy, content, upbeat
2.) What is he talking about?
He's actually talking about his relationship with God, using his desk as a symbol, and essentially saying that his desk - God - is always there for him. He's fond of his desk, because it's very comfortable and reliable. He's happy that it's unmoving, thus being unable to leave him, and he's just very glad that it's there.
1.) It's the one thing I've got
2.) To keep my hopes alive
3.) It's the friend I've got, a giant of all times

ReplyDelete"Unmoving" is kind of a funny play on words too. I get the mental picture of an enormous wooden desk that literally can't be moved.
